5 Steps to Deal with Identity Theft

(San Mateo, CA) – "This video is part of a community action project Tiffany Yu and Ashley Tai organized for their Mills High School AP US Government and Politics class."

After the family of Tiffany Yu, a high school intern for Assemblymember Kevin Mullin (D-San Mateo), was victimized by identity theft, she went to work producing a video to help others deal with the impacts of a cyber-attack. Her “5 Steps” video tells what to do and who to talk with if your identity is stolen. “Our bank accounts and email passwords had been changed, my parents' social security numbers had been stolen, and the identity thieves took thousands of dollars from our accounts,” Yu says of her family’s experience with identity theft. “I wanted to create resources with information on how to protect personal information online and the steps to take if you become a victim of fraud or identity theft because I do not want any family to have to go through what mine did.” Check out her work in this Assembly Assets video. (It’s really good!)
