(Sacramento) - Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Kevin Mullin’s (D-San Mateo) measure (Assembly Bill 2188) to require discloser of who pays for political ads on social media has passed the Assembly. AB 2188 is also known as the Social Media DISCLOSE Act. “As most of us are well aware, with increasing frequency, people are getting their news and information via social media,” Assemblymember Mullin said as he presented the bill to the Assembly. “As a result, such sites are becoming a major location for placement of political advertising; hence it is imperative that disclosure requirements also apply to ads on these online platforms.” To learn more about the Social Media DISCLOSE Act, watch this Assembly Access video.
