Sacramento - “Governor Newsom’s 2020 State of the State address initially struck a positive tone, highlighting California’s many strong suits; the fifth largest economy in the world, 118 consecutive months of  net job growth and home to almost 4 million small business. Yet, as the Governor pointed out, while much of California is thriving we cannot forget the fact that homelessness is at a crisis level and while he has issued an Executive Order to deploy emergency mobile housing trailers and services, there is still more to be done. I stand ready to work with my colleagues in the Legislature and the Governor to address this crisis at multiple levels and agree that we must look beyond traditional approaches to those that are innovative and unique. It is not and cannot be approached as a one size fits all solution. We cannot lose a single unit of existing housing and must do everything possible to create more. The legislature and local governments must be willing to carefully consider unique opportunities when they present themselves, and together, look for ways to support solutions not thwart them.”
